Comments: Thank you so much for putting together this site. Both my grandmother and grandfather immigrated to the US from Cres. My grandmother as a young girl and my grandfather as a teen in the Merchant Marines. They both met each other in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to discover they were both from this small island and later married.
It has been very difficult to find information and pictures of Cres. I cannot wait to show my 6 year old son your site - so he may see where his Nono's family came from!

Comments: Hi Have been looking for information about your island since I recently found out that my uncle was awarded the military cross in 1945 for an act of bravery whilst he was trying to defend the island from German invasion. He was shot in the head and badly wounded whilst firing on a german gun post. He continued to fire however, giving the rest of the men in his unit the chance to take out the post. He spent two years in hospital recovering from his Injuries and eventuallydied at the age of 52 having married and had a family. The action took place in ossero on the island of cherso in march 1945. I would love to find out more about this.
